Compare the2024 Cadillac XT6VS 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

The XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the XT6 and the Outlander PHEV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The XT6’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Outlander PHEV’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

There are over 73 percent more Cadillac dealers than there are Mitsubishi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the XT6’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the XT6 first among upper midsize premium suvs in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The Outlander PHEV isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are better in initial quality than Mitsubishi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in initial quality. With 23 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mitsubishi is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are more reliable than Mitsubishi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in long-term dependability. With 24 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Mitsubishi is rated lower.

The XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 62 more horsepower (310 vs. 248) than the Outlander PHEV’s 2.4 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport 3.6 DOHC V6 is faster than the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the XT6’s fuel efficiency. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The XT6 FWD’s standard fuel tank has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Outlander PHEV (19 vs. 14.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The XT6 AWD’s standard fuel tank has 7.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Outlander PHEV (22 vs. 14.8 gallons).

The XT6 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The XT6’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Outlander PHEV are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Outlander PHEV (265/45R21 vs. 255/45R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Outlander PHEV’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Cadillac XT6’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The XT6 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Outlander PHEV; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The XT6 offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Outlander PHEV’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the XT6’s wheelbase is 6.2 inches longer than on the Outlander PHEV (112.7 inches vs. 106.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the XT6 is 3.7 inches wider in the front and 3.2 inches wider in the rear than on the Outlander PHEV.

The XT6 Sport AWD handles at .88 G’s, while the Outlander PHEV SEL Premium pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Cadillac XT6 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

For excellent aerodynamics, the XT6 has standard flush composite headlights. The Outlander PHEV has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The XT6 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The XT6 has 24.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Outlander PHEV (149.9 vs. 125.5).

The XT6 has .4 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear legroom, 2.4 inches more rear hip room, 1.5 inches more rear shoulder room, 4.1 inches more third row headroom, 10.4 inches more third row legroom and 2.3 inches more third row shoulder room than the Outlander PHEV.

The XT6’s cargo area provides more volume than the Outlander PHEV.

Both the XT6 and the Outlander PHEV have standard second row automatic folding seats. The XT6’s third row seats also fold up or down at the press of a switch. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer automatic folding third row seats.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the XT6. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Maximum trailer towing in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is limited to 1500 pounds. The XT6 offers up to a 4000 lbs. towing capacity.

The XT6 uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Outlander PHEV uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than Mitsubishi. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac second in service department satisfaction. With a 26% lower rating, Mitsubishi is ranked 12th.

The power windows standard on both the XT6 and the Outlander PHEV have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the XT6 is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Outlander PHEV prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The XT6’s front and rear power windows all open fully with one touch of the switches and its front windows also automatically close, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Outlander PHEV’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

On a hot day the XT6’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Outlander PHEV can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The XT6’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Outlander PHEV’s power window, power lock and power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the XT6 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The XT6’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Mitsubishi only offers heated mirrors on the Outlander PHEV SE/SEL.

The XT6’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Outlander PHEV offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

A built-in pollen filter removes pollen, exhaust fumes and other pollutants from the XT6’s passenger compartment. This helps prevent lung and/or sinus irritation which can trigger allergies or asthma. The Outlander PHEV’s air conditioner doesn’t offer a filtration system.

The XT6 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional Automatic Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting and stopping automatically, with the driver only responsible for switching from reverse to drive. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The XT6 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
